Who we are

MultiTier is a dynamic and values-oriented development consultancy firm founded by a diverse team of seasoned professionals with extensive knowledge and working experience in Africa's development landscape. Our multidisciplinary team brings extensive experience in research, development, and capacity-building across various fields, including development studies, agriculture and food systems, food and nutrition security, agroecology, gender and youth studies, innovation systems, policy studies, political economy, knowledge systems, public health, and sociology. MultiTier specializes in research, policy analysis, and capacity building across various domains including agriculture, rural development, sustainable and inclusive agri-food systems, and nutrition.

We are led by a high-level advisory board of directors of 5 members. They possess a wealth of knowledge and years of expertise in research and development, innovation systems, entrepreneurial ecosystem and business consulting, policy advisory and strategic partnership, strategic planning, learning and diversity and inclusion initiatives. Our board members hold prominent positions as university vice-chancellors, regional planning and development commissioners, center leaders, innovation and research heads, and training and community development leaders. For example:

• Professor Jemal Yousuf, our Board Chair, currently serves as the Vice-Chancellor (President) of Haramaya University in Ethiopia.

• Dr. Abdi Yuya, the Strategic Partnership Development and Policy Advisor, is the Oromia Planning and Development Commission Commissioner in Ethiopia.

• Professor Anthony Egeru, MutiTier's Training and Development Advisor, is a Training and Community Development leader at RUFORUM and associate professor at Makerere University in Uganda.

• Dr. Rukarwa Runyararo Jolyn, Research Thematic Area and Innovation Advisor is a leader in innovation and research at RUFORUM, hailing from Zimbabwe.

• Dr. Pamela Mreji, Enterprise Development and Gender Inclusion Advisor, is the Director of the Centre for Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Technology Transfer (CEIT) at the Technical University of Kenya. She also serves as an adjunct faculty member at Strathmore Business School and as a Visiting Senior Research Associate at the University of Johannesburg.

Most of the organization’s core team has extensive experience in managing and implementing development projects and international cooperation as consultants and staff working in food and nutrition security, livelihood and resilience programming, gender and youth inclusion, humanitarian programming, political-economy analysis, public policy, climate-smart agriculture, agriculture and rural innovation, and agri-preneurship and innovation for various organizations including the UN, EU, USAID, MercyCorps, MASTERCARD FOUNDATION, CGIAR, CISP, GIZ, RFF-CMCC European Institute on Economics and the Environment (EIEE), ICS-UNIDO - International Centre for Science and High Technology, and more.  At the moment, our organization comprises nine members with PhDs and three members with MSc degrees, specializing in a diverse range of fields, including agriculture, development studies, rural innovations, livelihoods, food security, gender, business and innovation, agricultural extension, health, environment and management, public policy, and political economy.

A unique feature (key strength) of MultiTier Consult is its ability to draw on a multicultural, multi-national and multi-disciplinary expert from Ethiopia as well as from Nigeria, Kenya, Uganda, and Somalia. Our muti-national experts work tirelessly with the private sector, government authorities, farmer groups, civil society and agricultural service providers. They offer capacity development, financial management and technical advisory services in agriculture, horticulture, agroforestry and livestock sectors, covering the whole value chain. MutiTier has strong complementary expertise in land tenure, food security, nutrition and environmental management. We have high-level expertise in local governance reform and know how to design interventions targeting women and youth. Integrating multiple "greening and social-inclusion opportunities" and climate-proofing helps translate the SDGs into practice.
